Indo24hours.com | Depok, Indonesia — A collaborative international community service program between Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) and Politeknik Tawau Sabah, Malaysia successfully fostered environmental awareness among students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Depok. The initiative, titled “Sharing Care, Spreading Love: Empowering Students through Environmental Awareness and Waste Segregation Practices,” was held on April 4, 2026, involving 26 junior high school students along with participation from Malaysian students, creating a dynamic intercultural learning environment.
The program was part of an ongoing international collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of instilling environmental responsibility from an early age. Conducted in a lively and engaging atmosphere, the activity combined education, hands-on practice, and interactive games to ensure effective learning outcomes.
The event officially commenced with opening remarks by Haolia Rahman, Ph.D., Head of the Center for Research and Community Service (P3M) at PNJ. In his speech, he highlighted the urgency of environmental education in shaping responsible future generations, noting that simple habits such as waste sorting can significantly impact environmental sustainability.

The core session featured an educational workshop on waste segregation delivered by Dr. Prihatin, a lecturer from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department at PNJ. The session integrated theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and interactive games, enabling students to actively engage and directly apply what they learned.
Adding an international dimension, TS Dr. Tshin Lip Vui from Politeknik Tawau, Malaysia emphasized the value of cross-cultural learning and knowledge exchange. He noted that such programs not only enhance students’ environmental awareness but also broaden their global perspectives through direct interaction with peers from different countries.
A significant highlight of the program was the ceremonial handover of cleaning equipment to the school as a tangible contribution to support sustainable environmental practices. The handover was represented by Nurul Intan Pratiwi, S.Sos., M.Si., Vice Director for Student Affairs at PNJ, together with representatives from Politeknik Tawau.
The activities continued with various interactive sessions, including educational games, group activities such as painting and quizzes, and fun competitions designed to reinforce key environmental messages. The enthusiastic participation of students reflected the success of the program in delivering meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences.
The event concluded with a group photo session and the distribution of door prizes, leaving a positive and lasting impression on all participants.
