The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) plans to hold an internal election to determine the next general chairman.

The party confirmed that Kaesang Pangarep’s replacement could be elected if a new leader aligns with PSI’s vision and mission.

PSI Secretary General Raja Juli Antoni said this leadership transition is possible under the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“Yes, absolutely possible—as long as the vision and mission align,” Raja Juli told reporters at GKI Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on Saturday (31/05/2025).

Raja Juli highlights importance of member participation and democracy

Raja Juli emphasized that the internal election, called Pemilu Raya, seeks to empower members by involving them in leadership decisions.

“We want PSI to be a truly democratic party where members shape the party’s future,” he said.

He argued this approach would foster a deeper and long-lasting connection between party and members.

“It’s not just about five-year electoral cycles; members play a consistent role in the party,” he added.

PSI’s vision includes long-term, inclusive political engagement

According to Raja Juli, PSI is committed to building a political culture that moves beyond transactional participation.

He said long-term relationships between members and the party are essential for PSI’s democratic framework.

The party aims to move away from political elitism, giving more agency to its grassroots base.

“Let’s not keep political decisions limited to elite backrooms,” he said.

PSI to launch online platform for democratic participation

To further democratize its internal processes, PSI will develop an online voting platform for its members.

The platform will serve as a tool for nationwide participation in major party decisions.

With this system, the party seeks to ensure inclusivity and transparency for its members.

“Now decisions won’t just come from the chairman and secretary general,” Raja Juli noted.

PSI internal election may lead to leadership transition

Kaesang Pangarep, the current general chairman, may be replaced through the democratic voting process.

The platform will allow any eligible member to be nominated and voted on, signaling a more open structure.

The move could mark a generational or strategic shift in the party’s leadership.

PSI’s openness to change reflects its broader commitment to member-driven governance.

A shift away from backroom political negotiations

Raja Juli strongly criticized closed-door political bargaining as outdated and non-inclusive.

He said PSI rejects traditional elitist models of decision-making in favor of collective input.

The upcoming internal election is positioned as a concrete rejection of opaque politics.

“We’ll ask the members, not just do politics behind closed doors,” he insisted.

PSI charts path as a modern and digital-first political party

By digitizing its internal voting system, PSI aims to become Indonesia’s most tech-forward political organization.

The platform will support transparency, reduce manipulation risks, and simplify national member involvement.

This modernization aligns with PSI’s youthful image and Kaesang’s digital-savvy leadership style.

PSI believes this approach will attract a new generation of politically engaged Indonesians.***
